You deliberated for weeks over cabinet hardware. You toured every slab at the stone yard. You even hand-laid the new floorboards. By the time you’re ready to select appliances for your kitchen renovation, the last thing you want is to settle for a homely range that undercuts all of that hard-won design work.
Happily, choosing a handsome range doesn’t mean compromising on performance. We recently posed the question to 15 designers: What do you consider the best-designed kitchen range on the market? We were pleasantly surprised to uncover a whole—for want of a better word—range of options. Yes, they still swoon over storied French names like Lacanche and La Cornue, but plenty of others have earned their place in these projects too. Here’s what they had to say.
As more clients request alternatives to gas cooktops, we point them toward induction as the eco-friendly path. It delivers precise temperature control and stays cool to the touch, a safer pick for households with children. Ilve’s Freestanding Nostalgie II Induction Ranges arrive in a range of stocked colors, or you can special-order one in your preferred Pantone shade.—Elle Cantrell, owner and lead designer of Elle Du Monde
I’m drawn to the styling of the Ilve ranges and the sheer breadth of customizable options. We recently installed one in a project and it’s simply stunning—the “wow” moment of the entire design. —Shauna Jones, founder of Shauna Glenn Design

The signature red knobs are more than a recognizable feature—they’re a bold design statement, lending personality and sophistication to any kitchen. —Kerith Flynn, principal and founder of Margali & Flynn Designs
The best-designed kitchen range is Wolf’s Dual-Fuel Range. I recently specified it in a new custom build and my client couldn’t be more delighted. Its refined smart technology, with chef-developed cooking modes, takes the guesswork out of cooking and turns out beautifully executed, gourmet-inspired dishes. —Audrey Frances Doty, founder of Audrey Frances Design
I frequently recommend Wolf’s gas ranges. I appreciate that certain models let you swap out the knobs for a more personalized look, and the center griddle is ideal for weekend pancakes with the family. —Susan Petrie, founder of Petrie Interior Designs
Classic and timeless: the 48–60" Wolf gas range. It cooks beautifully and stands out as a centerpiece in any kitchen.—Blair Britt, co-owner at Bella B Home Designs
The La Cornue Château Series represents the pinnacle of kitchen design, marrying timeless elegance with unrivaled craftsmanship. —Lauren Lerner, CEO and principal of Living with Lolo
Plenty of ranges offer bespoke detailing, but La Cornue stands apart through its exquisite design. The iconic top, with star burners engineered for precise heat control, mirrors the precision and passion at the heart of classic French cuisine. —Regan Billingsley, founder of Regan Billingsley Interiors
I consider the La Cornue range the best-designed on the market. Cooking on a La Cornue is an experience—its powerful burners and even heat distribution make it a dream for any serious cook.—Brittany Farinas, founder and creative director at House of One
I fell for the Château Series years ago. Aesthetically, it’s an exclusive, refined piece of art; functionally, the results are exceptional.—Antonio Matres, founder of Antonio Matres Design
I’m an interior designer, but I’m also a serious cook. For me, it has to be Thermador’s 48″ gas range. The feature that won me over is how well it holds a low simmer—you can set a paper plate of chocolate chips on it and the flame melts the chocolate without scorching the plate. It even emits a soft click every few minutes so you don’t leave that low flame on by accident. —Tara Lenney, founder of Tara Lenney Design
I adore Lacanche! The color options are gorgeous, and the front door is all enamel (no glass), which I love because you never see grease smudges. —Annie Sullivan Cobb, co-founder of Sullivan Matthews
There’s no shortage of beautiful ranges to choose from, yet this one has also been voted top in class by chefs the world over, which is what makes it so spectacular. It pairs leading technology with a sophisticated look, delivering an unrivaled cooking experience. —Tiffany Glasco, founder of Nahla Madison Home
From a design standpoint it’s a dream, since you can tailor the look and color of nearly every element. You can get wildly creative with one of the 1,000-plus base and knob colors, plus a range of metal trim options like antique brass or copper. From a cooking standpoint, clients appreciate the 25,000 BTU open burners—true chef’s-kitchen power—and the even heat distribution. They also praise the under-burner slide tray for easy cleanup, the integrated wok cooking, and the customizable burner-plus-griddle configuration. —Amber Sokolowski, founder of Soko Design
